Legacy Leaders Track

Legacy Leaders Track

Session Title Description
Legacy Leader Competency Framework Overview This session will provide an overview of the entire Legacy Leader Competency Framework, which will serve as the roadmap for the Legacy Leader track of the AISAP summer institute for the next several years.  The framework aligns leadership theory with contemporary leadership practices within educational organizations. The  competencies have been identified from current and leading research, and encompass areas of effectiveness in critical thinking, organizational analysis, talent management, interpersonal skills, research literacy, and leading and managing people and organizations.  Each year, the summer institute will enable participants to build knowledge and sharpen competencies that can be applied in an array of independent school settings. This session will provide a synopsis of the framework and provide a foundation for subsequence summer institute sessions that will focus in-depth on individual competency domains.
Legacy Leader Competency:: Motivating others
This session will explore how admissions leaders can increase their skill in motivating others.  An individual skilled in this competency does the following: creates a climate in which people want to do their best; can motivate many kinds of direct reports and team or project members; can assess each person’s “hot button” and use it to get the best out of him/her; pushes tasks and decisions down; empowers others; invites input from each person and shares ownership and visibility; makes each individual feel like his/her work is important; and is someone people like working for and with. This session will discuss how independent school admissions leaders can implement this competency within their schools.
Legacy Leader Competency:: Decision quality
This session will focus on a set of strategies for supporting high quality decision making. Hallmarks of individual skilled in this competency include: arriving at decisions, without considering how much time it takes, based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment;  solutions and suggestions that turn out to be correct and accurate when judged over time; being sought out by others for advice and solutions. The session will provide opportunities for participants to discuss the supports and challenges to effective decision making in their school contexts.
Legacy Leader Competency: Interpersonal savvy
This session will discuss how admissions leaders can develop their interpersonal capacity to lead others.  An individual skilled in this Legacy Leader competency does the following: relates well to all kinds of people – up, down, and sideways, inside and outside the organization; builds appropriate rapport; builds constructive and effective relationships; uses diplomacy and tact; and can defuse even high-tension situations comfortably. This session will discuss how independent school admission leaders can implement this competency within their organizational contexts.
