Geordie Mitchell has literally spent his life on school campuses.
He was born and raised on the campus of St. Paul’s School in Baltimore where both of his parents were teachers and coaches. Geordie's own independent school career has encompassed grades PK-12, day and boarding, and spiritual and secular schools.
He began his career at Trinity-Pawling School, an all-boys boarding school in New York where he taught, coached, advised, and served as both the Assistant Director of the Capital Campaign and the Director of Admission.
Called back to his roots, Geordie returned to St. Paul’s for 14 years.
During that time, he spent time as the Director of Development and the Director of Admissions.
He was the Assistant Head for External Relations at Wilmington Friends School where he oversaw the admissions, development, and communications departments before returning to admissions in his current role as Director of Enrollment Management at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, MA.
Education is the family business as Geordie’s wife, Mary, has been an English teacher for many years; his son is a former admission director; and his daughter is currently the Director of the Upper School at an independent school.
A founding Board member for AISAP, Geordie has been a frequent presenter at conferences and workshops around the country on various aspects of enrollment management. He is currently on the planning committees for both the 2014 NAIS National Conference and the 2014 NAIS SSS Leadership Conference. Geordie also recently participated in a two-day discussion at NAIS headquarters on the future of independent school education and the data needed for schools to make strategic, data-driven decisions. He was one of five independent school leaders invited to join university researchers and educational think tank experts for this discussion.
