Database options

A colleague is transitioning to a small school (about 100 students) and is exploring options for an admissions database that is affordable.  Any thoughts?  Blackbaud, et al, do not fit that bill.

We currently use Portal from inResonance, and really like it.  I believe inResonance (now part of Community Brands) has a smaller, more affordable module called Sandbox for admission/enrollment use.

We use PORTAL with InResonance as well and I think it's great.  It's built on a FileMaker Pro platform base and so it is pretty intuitive if they are moving from another database application.  A ton of functionality and modules to add together as desired.  Two other things I really like about it are the customer service (it's a smaller shop in Massachusetts so you typically get a pretty quick response) and they just became part of the CommunityBrands family so it is starting to build up integration options with lots of other CommunityBrands products.

Look at Schooladmin. They have contracts with nursery schools so they have less expensive options.

We use SchoolAdmin's small school version to run our summer program. It does not have all of the features that the full version does but it has been a great solution.

When I worked in a school of 100 students we used inResonance (Sandbox) as well and it had some really good features that I was able to use easily and update as needed.

    Hi Larry!

We are in our second year of using Pixels & Digits and could not be any happier! Midland has about 90 students and it is the perfect database for us. It also houses our grade book, attendance, Advancement office, and many other great components. Because it is owned and operated by two brothers (who built the whole program), I have responses from them within an hour, usually sooner, each time I reach out to them. They have also built custom modules for us and altered parts of the program to better fit our needs. I cannot recommend them enough for small schools. They are truly in business to make our lives easier and they do exactly that. They also run our website as part of our "package".

If your colleague has any questions, please let them know I am happy to answer! Their demo also sold us within 5 minutes. Looking forward to seeing you in Colorado Springs!

There are some other options out there (and inResonance is a great platform) as well. For someone in a small shop, having a lot of automation of tasks would be important, so I would encourage a look at the SchoolAdmin platform (which has a lot of great CRM features, as well as a very robust management tool to process a prospect all the way through to enrollment) and a newcomer to the market, Enquiry Tracker. ET has a clean and easy to use interface, is surprisingly affordable, and would be "just right" for a small shop looking to maximize their efforts. You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a good system in place, but I encourage admission professionals to do the research and make sure that the system has what they are looking for, with the ability to be flexible to their school's specific needs...

Some of the database systems that are noted here will be at the Annual Institute as well as may have some Corporate Partner Spotlights available in the webinar archives, a place to check it out if you are interested in learning more.
