SSAT and ISEE Testing

    Hello!

We are researching different admissions testing programs and wanted to get some insights from other offices regarding their experience with either SSAT or the ISEE exams:
    1. Which exam do you use?
    2. What grades do you administer this test to?
    3. Overall, do you feel you get an accurate idea of the potential of the student?
    4. Have you had issues with the cost of the exam for applying families? How easy was it to get fee waivers for families of high need?

    Thanks in advance!

    Sylvester

    Good afternoon!

We use the ISEE with grades 5-12 and feel the results give us a nice overview of applicants.  Our team explains that this is one piece of the applicant's admission file and if an applicant is coming from public school we spend extra time explaining the independent school norms.  ISEE sends a nice number of waiver codes.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi Sylvester,

We have been using and administering the ISEE only until this school year 2019-2020 and will include the SSAT because of the Character Skills Snapshot. ISEE provides 25 fee waivers, depending on school size. SSAT provides "unlimited" fee waivers within reason. All applicants for the 9th grade must take either the ISEE or SSAT; transfer students may submit either ACT, SAT, PSAT, PACT in lieu of the former two exams.

Both ISEE and SSAT help us gauge a prospective student's ability and potential to succeed once enrolled, albeit they are not predictors of success.

Hope this helps. Please reach out any time with additional questions.
