When:  Feb 4, 2016 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM (ET)

Presenter:  Dave Taibl, Director of Outreach, SSATB

Bio:   As SSATB’s Director of Outreach, Dave Taibl works with schools throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Texas.  He brings two decades’ experience as a teacher, coach, and administrator to inform his work for independent schools. He began his career in 1993 as an intern at Christchurch School, a co-ed boarding and day school in Virginia’s Tidewater region, working as a dorm parent, coach and English teacher. Dave soon entered the admission field and served as the school’s Director of Admission until 2000, when he joined the administration at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School in Alexandria as the Dean of Students. He oversaw enrollment management and fundraising as the Assistant Head of School at Stuart Hall from 2005 through 2008, assisting in the successful merger with Hunter McGuire School to create a cohesive K-12 school in Staunton, Virginia. Dave also served as the General Manager of an adaptive re-use, commercial real estate development project in Staunton, overseeing the building’s renovation and market initiatives in order to promote and align the company’s objectives with broader community goals for the City’s original high school building. Currently based outside of Washington, D.C., Dave holds a B.A. in English Literature from Washington College (Md.) and a M.Ed. from the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education.

What is an admission test?  How does it differ from other tests such as achievement, classroom, or intelligence tests?  In order to fairly assess every candidate applying to independent schools, admission officers must know the answers to these questions and more.  Equally important is maximizing the information available on an SSAT Score Report by understanding the SSAT Score Scale, Norm Group (where SSAT Percentiles come from), and a host of other details.

Additionally, the emergence of technologies to aid families and schools in establishing standardized applications has inspired a reimagining of the function and ease of use with the Standard Application Online.  Schools and consortiums are able to integrate data with existing platforms to track applicants in more relevant and meaningful ways than ever before, while families benefit from a common application which removes many of the hurdles in applying to independent schools.

Participants are guaranteed to leave armed with the information and resources available to them through SSATB to aid test interpretation with the SSAT and utilize the functionality of the SAO.
