Transitions
In just a few short weeks, our schools will have graduated or promoted their students. Celebrations and well wishes will transition into end-of-the-year faculty meetings and some will be packing boxes as faculty, staff, and administration move from one school to the next, or from one chapter of their lives to another.
For many, it’s a time of transition. The AISAP Career Center and membership portal is buzzing as many of you notify us of your next phase. The job checkerboard showing who is going where and in what position is in full swing. Again, transitions.
This is also a time when newly-enrolled students are thinking about saying goodbye to one chapter and starting the next—with you. What are you doing now to help them turn the page? As we all know, transitions and changes can be difficult, even in the best of circumstances, and even more difficult when the next steps are new and unfamiliar. I’ve been thinking about this in the context of our work with professionals. The next step is oftentimes one you’ve been thinking about and planning for some time, or now, as new opportunities abound, awaiting you.
Ask yourself this question: What are you doing to make the transition for new students easier for families? What are you doing to make the transition from one school to the next better for you and your new employer? How are you helping a new member of your staff, a new Head of School, or someone with new title or position at the same school?
For many of us, the process of change is so hard to imagine or to find comfort in that we remain constant, one year rolling into the next. Yet, without taking a risk, we don’t move ourselves or anyone else forward.
So, at this time when we see change all around us, be a part of it. Embrace it! Celebrate it! And, share with us what you’re going to do to “AMP” up your work and your roles to make transitions smooth and joyful for all! .
