Webinar: “When does it make sense to take a risk on an applicant?"

When:  Feb 23, 2016 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM (ET)

Presenter:  Amy Pearson, Independent School Admission and Enrollment Management Consultant.

Bio:   Amy Pearson currently works with various independent schools, from a start-up school in San Francisco that serves middle–high school students to several Jewish Day Schools across the U.S. Last spring she served as the Acting Head of Campus at Brandeis Hillel Day School in San Rafael, California after also serving in other capacities at the school (enrollment management, marketing, high school placement, assistant head). For over 10 years, Amy has led admission offices in various independent schools including a school for gifted children, a progressive school, and most recently a Jewish Day School. She started her educational career as a second/third grade teacher, spent a few years in advertising as a project manager and copywriter, and has also served on non-profit boards and in many volunteer roles. Amy currently serves as a recruitment and retention coach for PEJE (Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education) in addition to pursuing her own consulting work with independent schools. This will be Amy’s third year on the faculty at AISAP’s Annual Institute and she is looking forward to celebrating AISAP’s 10th anniversary. Amy has a son and a daughter in elementary school and loves spending time with them when she isn’t out training for her next triathlon.

In every admission process there are families that are following a slightly different path. Maybe the student has grades that are dropping, an attention issue that is getting in the way, or social issues that bring up questions for your admissions committee. In this session we will examine a variety of situations and student profiles that are worth a second look. We’ll discuss how to evaluate students and families that would benefit from a deeper examination and how to learn as much as possible during the admission process. Examples of conditional contracts will be shared that can help set expectations and create a road map for success
